Take 4 simple steps to boost your cyber security

It won’t be a surprise to anyone that cybercrime reports are increasing.

According to the Australian Signals Directorate’s (ASD) annual cyber threat report, 1 cybercrime was reported to their Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) every 7 minutes during the 2021-2022 financial year, a 13% increase from the previous financial year.

Disturbingly, this is the reporting period before millions of Australians were caught up in the Optus and Medibank Private breaches.

October is Cyber Security Awareness month and an annual reminder for all Australians to stay secure online. This year, the ACSC is encouraging Australians to take 4 simple steps to be cyber wise and significantly boost their cyber security:

1. Update your devices regularly
2. Turn on multi-factor authentication
3. Back up your important files
4. Use passphrases and password managers

Here is a short quiz to test your knowledge how cyber secure are you.

Please feel free to contact your adviser if you ever have any concerns around your personal or financial information being compromised, or you suspect a potential hacker is contacting you around investments or funds transfers or asking you to update website addresses or contact details.
